Obituary of Roberta L. Hall
Roberta L. Hall
Olean, NY Roberta L. Hall, a longtime Olean resident, passed away Sunday (November 24, 2024) at the Olean General Hospital of complications from a recent stroke.
Born December 17, 1954 in Olean, she was the daughter of Robert E. and Louise J. Gunsolus Hall.
Roberta was raised in Franklinville and graduated from Franklinville High School, Ten Broek Academy. She graduated from Trocaire College in Buffalo with a registered nursing degree in 1975.
She began working as a registered nurse for Cuba Memorial Hospital. Her passion in nursing was concentrated on obstetrics and neonatal care where she thrived at learning and practicing her skills on the maternity floor. She moved to Florida where she worked at Waterman Hospital in Eustis for 3 years. In 1980 she moved to Olean and worked for the former St. Francis Hospital. After the merger with Olean General Hospital, she continued her career in the maternity ward until she was forced to retire from that position due to back issues. She was soon hired by The ReHabilitation Center in Olean and used her nursing skills and natural gift of helping others at SubCon, and later for Intandem in various group homes prior to retirement.
Roberta was one who enjoyed being helpful to others and was very sociable. She loved young children and babies and used her good sense of humor to make others comfortable. Each year she looked forward to her trip to the state of Washington to visit her brother Mike and his wife and 3 daughters.
She is survived by her father Robert of Stanwood, WA; her brother Michael (Laura) Hall of Chehalis, WA; 3 nieces, Ashley Hall, Bethany (Jacob) Cathcart, and Michaela (Jason) Lipps, and several great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother Louise in January 2022.
Roberta and her mother had a favorite hymn that expressed their Christian faith. Written by Charles Wesley in the 1700’s, it’s titled “A Charge to Keep I Have”. The fourth verse reads “Help me to watch and pray, And on Thyself rely, Assured if I my trust betray, I shall forever die.”
A remembrance of Roberta will be observed by her family in Stanwood, WA at a later date, with inurnment in the Warm Beach (WA) Free Methodist Church columbarium.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
