Obituary of Robert D. Bushnell
Robert D. Bushnell
Olean, NY Robert D. Bushnell, 82, of 1223 Goodrich Ave., passed away Sunday (April 14, 2024) following a long illness.
Born September 20, 1941 in Franklinville, he was the son of Lynn L. and Eleanor Southwick Bushnell.
Bob was a 1959 graduate of Olean High School. In 1960 he enlisted in the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Dahlgren GLG-12 during the Cuban Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1964.
On July 31, 1965 in Franklinville, he married the love of his life, Sally E. Smith. Together they had three children, Timothy, Michael, and Heather.
He worked for McGraw Edison Co., later Cooper Industries, from 1964 until his retirement in 2000.
In his retirement he enjoyed golfing, traveling, and holding gatherings for his family and friends. He made it his mission for all he interacted with to end up leaving with a smile on their face. With his stories he would make them laugh a little louder, smile a little bigger, and always end up leaving them in stitches.
Surviving besides his wife Sally of 58 years are a son, Michael (Mandy) Bushnell of Hinsdale; a daughter, Heather Cooney of Rockledge, FL; grandchildren Lindsay, Brooke, Alyssa, Shay, and Lily; a brother, Thomas (Jean) Bushnell of Tennessee, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his 2 brothers Craig Bushnell of Olean and Lynn (Jean) Bushnell of Colorado, and his eldest son Tim (Laurie) Bushnell of Olean who succumbed after a courageous battle with cancer.
Per Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Salvation Army, 310 E. State St., Olean, NY 14760.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
