Obituary of Helen A. Fischer

Allegany- Helen Ann Fischer ,88, of Allegany passed away Friday (February 2, 2024) surrounded by her family. Helen was born on January 8, 1936, in Vandalia, NY, and was the daughter of Charles B. and Marfisa Giardini. On October 12, 1963, she married Curtis L. Fischer who survives. Helen graduated from Allegany Central School in 1953. She worked for the New York Telephone Co. as an operator from 1953-1966. In 1979, she joined the family business Charles B. Giardini, Inc. until her retirement in 2020. She was very active in her church, St. John the Baptist, RC. in Vandalia where she was an eucharistic minister and taught first communion classes for many years. She was a leader in Camp Fire Girls. Helen enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts, bowling, and flower gardening. She was a strong, caring woman who loved spending time with her family. Helen is survived by her husband of 60 years, two daughters Susan (James) Schifley of Allegany and Rhonda (Sebastian) Puda of Erie Pa.; Grandchildren, Matthew (Erika), Joshua Puda, Molly, Hannah, and Lauren Schifley; her siblings Robert J. Giardini, Josephine Giardini, Roxana (Robert) Boser, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Charles Jr. Giardini, and two sisters Geraldine McGinty and Lillian Giardini. There will be no visitation. A private memorial mass will be held on Saturday (February 10, 2024) at 11:00 am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Michael Reyes, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Helen will be laid to rest at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig, and Hartle Funeral Home, Olean. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Public Library, Allegany Fire Dept., or the St. Bonaventure Parish.
