JOHN F. "FRANK" DONNELLY
"Proud and loving husband, father & grandfather"
OLEAN – John F. "Frank" Donnelly of Garden Avenue died Thursday March 11, 2004 at the Olean General Hospital. Born in Westlin, Canada on April 19, 1918 he was a son of William and Anna Shea Donnelly. On April 19,1949 in Olean he married Harriette Vales who survives.
Mr. Donnelly served with the United States Army during WWII in the 806th engineering battalion. He received his United States citizenship in Bari, Italy while serving in the military in 1943. Mr. Donnelly graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1949. He was employed as a specifications engineer for AVX for 25 years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, the Pulaski Club and the Olean American Legion post 530 where he served as Sgt. at Arms from 1979 – 1980 and volunteered as a bingo worker. Mr. Donnelly enjoyed walking, reading and being with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jerome Donnelly of San Francisco and Brian (Nancy) Donnelly of Olean; four daughters, Cynthia (Michael) !McCann of Allegany, Jean (Fred) Fox of Park City, UT, Amy (John) Phillips of Grapevine, TX and Tania (Doug) Kierklewski of Austin, TX; six grandchildren, Matt, Brad, Joel, Dave, Jenny and Angie. He is survived by a brother, Paul (Betsy) Donnelly of San Antonio, TX; a sister, Marian Zengerle of Rochester, NY; several nieces and nephews and his special canine friend Sable. He was predeceased by a brother, William Donnelly and a sister Clare Shabala.
Friends will be received on Sunday March 14, 2004 at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday March 15, 2004 beginning with a prayer service at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial and committal services will follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
