Allegany- Bernice Julia Nolan of 3324 North Seventh Street, Allegany passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Bernice was 95 years old, born October 5, 1927, in Great Valley, NY, and the daughter of the late Walter and Julia Puvel Brol. She graduated from Salamanca High School in 1946 and resided in Allegany since 1951. She was married on May 7, 1949, and celebrated 53 years of marriage to Paul F. Nolan who preceded her in death on July 6, 2003. Bernice was a loving, supportive wife to her husband as well as a caring mother to her children. Bernice worked for 11 years at Allegany Central School’s cafeteria. She was an active volunteer throughout her lifetime, freely giving her time and talent to Meals on Wheels, Olean General Hospital, and other organizations for which she cared. Bernice was a long-time member of Saint Bonaventure Parish in Allegany and contributed to the parish activities such as the yearly Bonafest activities, Luncheons, Bingo, and The Bridge Thrift Shop since it began. She was particularly interested in donating household items for re-purposing, re-use and recycling. She was a long-time participant of the Allegany 60 Plus Club, where she enjoyed crafting, participating in activities and taking trips with her husband, Paul. She was an avid gardener, and plant person and had an interest in crocheting, knitting, canning food, casino entertainment and loved being outdoors. Bernice is survived by her 5 children, Kathleen Ascioti of Syracuse, NY, Linda Pepperdine of Allegany NY, David (Grace) Nolan of Morriston, FL, Mary Fair (John Priest) of St. Augustine, FL and Nancy (Warren) Sinclair of W. Henrietta, NY. She had 7 grandchildren, Richard Phillips, Jamie Ascioti, Tim (Valerie) Nolan, Kristine (Paul) Malnasi, Alex (Danbee) Fair, Sarah and Emily Sinclair, and 1 great grandchild, Catriona Nolan. In addition to her husband, Bernice was predeceased by her son-in-law, Thomas Pepperdine, who passed in 2020. Her extended family includes one surviving sister, Sylvia Deju of New Port Richie, FL and 1 brother, Victor (Patricia) Brol of Salamanca, NY. Leaving this world before her were 6 sisters, Leona Zuzek, Loretta Kuklewicz, Veronica Dombeck,Helen Myers, Irene Woodarek and Marian Karl and 5 brothers, Chester Brol, Edward Brol, Walter Brol, Gerald Brol, and David Brol. Although she will be missed greatly, we know she was welcomed with a warm embrace by those she loved and passed before her. The family will gather privately with Rev. Michael Reyes, O.F.M., for a memorial service at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean. Burial will be next to her husband, Paul, in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
