Obituary of Harold N. Vaughn

Harold N. “Pete” Vaughn Olean, NY Harold N. “Pete” Vaughn, of Olean, passed away Friday (July 28, 2023) at the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness. Born May 4, 1945 in Olean, he was the son of Phillip and Jenny Thompkins Vaughn. He was married to Ruth M. Fitch, and they were together for over 40 years. Pete had worked for years as the store manager for the former Hills Department Store which later became Ames Department Store. He was a longtime active member of the Olean Eagles Aerie #616 and served in many chair positions. Pete loved bowling and he helped operate the Aerie’s bowling alley for years prior to its closure. Shortly after his brother Ed’s death, he bowled a perfect game which he dedicated to him. He also was a past State Aerie F.O.E. President and was currently serving as the East Regional F.O.E. President. For 20 years he was in charge of the hospitality rooms for the NYS conventions. Surviving besides his wife Ruth are 8 children, Virginia Vaughn of the Jamestown area, Dan (Roxanne Taggart) Vaughn of Eldred, PA, Kenny (Brandy) Vaughn of Etowah, TN, Rose (Harry) Gayton of Olean, Ann Langdon of Olean, John Fitch of Olean, Mauricio Riveria of Olean and Mary (Dana) Davidson of Hinsdale; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters, Rose Vaughn, Eleanor Green, Walter Vaughn, Sr., Nina Brothers, Shirley Hicks, Bonnie Benner, and Edward Vaughn. His last surviving brother, Wayne Vaughn, passed away just hours after his death yesterday. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 7-9pm and again on Wednesday (August 2, 2023) from 10-noon at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A service will begin at noon in the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, 665 Elm St., Buffalo, NY 14203.
