Obituary of Catherine L. Snopkowski

Catherine L. Snopkowski "loving mother, grandmother, Nana" Olean, NY-- Catherine L. Snopkowski of 951 N. Union St. died peacefully Wednesday (March 17, 2004) in her home. Born September 17, 1910 in Houtzdale, PA she was the daughter of John E. and Mary J. Rekenthaler !McQuillen. On February 22, 1933 at Sacred Heart Church in Houtzdale she married Bennie M. Snopkowski who predeceased her March 22, 1967. Mrs. Snopkowski was a graduate of Southwestern Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Pittsburgh, PA and had been a resident of Olean since 1933. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed helping to take care of her family. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Church in Olean. Surviving are a daughter Ruth A. Snopkowski with whom she made her home; a son Thomas J. (Peggy) Snopkowski of Olean; 5 grandchildren Kathleen Wainwright of Virginia, Susan Blackwell of Olean, Brenda (Stephen) Prins of Elmira, NY, Tina Person of Olean and Ben (Melissa) Snopkowski of Cuba, NY; 7 great grandchildren; 1 niece and 2 nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by four sisters Mary A. Diefenbach, Susan Butach, Margaret Petrovich and Effie !McQuillen and three brothers Daniel !McQuillen, John !McQuillen and Paul !McQuillen. Friends will be received today from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (March 19, 2004) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. John’s Church. Msgr. William Wangler, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. John’s Church.
