Obituary of H. Joan Long

H. Joan Long Olean, NY H. Joan Long, 94, of 305 N. 13th St., passed away Tuesday (February 14, 2023) at the Olean General Hospital after a short illness. Born November 5, 1928 in Bradford, PA, she was the daughter of William and Marion Carson Reck. On April 15, 1948 in Bradford, PA she married Harold A. Long, Jr. who predeceased her May 4, 1993. Joan worked at St. Elizabeth’s Motherhouse in Allegany for over 40 years. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. After retiring in her mid-70’s, she enjoyed going to breakfast every morning with her many friends. She is survived by 4 daughters Bonnie (John) Kuhn of Allegany, Susan (Theodore) App of Olean, Barbara (Tim Dugan) Quinlan of Franklinville, and Christine (Dan MacDonald) Thompson of Olean; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Harold, she was predeceased by 2 daughters Cheryl A. LaRue and Sandra E. Sweet; 1 son Harold Andy Long, III; a grandson Timothy LaRue; a sister Jean Moore; a brother William Reck, and 2 sons-in-law Philip Thompson and William Quinlan. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday (February 18, 2023) from 11am until 1pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A funeral service will begin at 1pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the SPCA, 1644 Olean Hinsdale Rd., Olean, NY 14760.
