Obituary of David Michael Flaherty

David Michael Flaherty Olean, NY David Flaherty, 74, a resident of Olean, passed away on Sunday (January 29, 2023) following a brief illness. Born on July 27, 1948, in Olean, Dave attended “old” Elementary School #2 and later Archbishop Walsh High School. He graduated from the University of Dayton in Ohio where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting. In his career, he worked for several local area companies as well as in Florida for the city of Daytona Beach. Prior to retirement, he worked in the Olean High School Business Office as treasurer for several years. Dave was a popular figure in all his professional and social circles, and he had many friends. He pursued a wide variety of interests including motorcycle and bicycle mechanics, music, skiing, marksmanship, cycling, golf, sewing, politics, and astronomy. Dave was the eldest son of Edward and Donna Flagg Flaherty. He is survived by his sister Catherine Harrelson of St. Petersburg, FL, and his brother Edward (Judith Allanson) Flaherty, Jr. of Cambridge, England, as well as two nephews Dylan Harrelson of St. Petersburg, FL, and Ciaran Flaherty of London, England. David was predeceased by his brother Terry P. Flaherty in 2003. At Dave’s request, there will be no services scheduled, and burial will be at the convenience of the family. A remembrance gathering will be scheduled later in the year for friends and family. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the SPCA, 1644 Olean Hinsdale Rd., Olean, NY 14760.
