Obituary of M. Margaret Stevens

M. Margaret "Chappy" Stevens "devoted wife, mother, grandmother" Orchard Park, NY-- M. Margaret "Chappy" Stevens, a former longtime Olean resident, died Monday (March 22, 2004) in The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in Cheektowaga, NY after an extended illness. Born October 17, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada she was the daughter of John C. and Adrienne Sullivan Chapman. On June 25, 1949 at St. Helen’s Church in Toronto she married Robert J. Stevens who survives. Mrs. Stevens was a graduate of Central Commerce High School and of Secord Secretarial School, both in Toronto. After moving to Olean over fifty years ago she worked for two years for the former Daystrom Furniture Co. She then was a devoted homemaker where she also volunteered as a member of the former St. Francis Hospital Guild. She was a former member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and for the past two years had been a member of St. John Vianney Church in West Seneca. One of her favorite activities was in attending family reunions in London, Ontario. Surviving are three children John B. (Deborah) Stevens of Olean, Jane A. (Timothy) Wilson of Amherst and Jeffrey J. (Rita) Stevens of West Seneca; 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by three brothers Clifford Chapman, Carl Chapman and John Chapman. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (March 25, 2004) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society, Archbishop Walsh High School Foundation or to Hospice of Buffalo 225 Como Park Blvd. Cheektowaga, NY 14227.
