James S. Rauh, Jr.
Olean, NY James S. Rauh, Jr., 73, of 316 Laurens St., Apt. C, formerly of N. 6th St., passed away Friday (November 26, 2021) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born March 20, 1948 in Cuba, he was a son of 10 children born to James and Pierrette Pluncoq Rauh, Sr. On December 8, 1990 in Olean he married Cindi A. Morris Gayton who survives.
James attended Salamanca schools and worked for many years as a roofer and sider, principally for Allegany Roofing in Angelica. He loved fishing, and was an avid arrowhead hunter and collector in a wide area of Western New York. At one time he was active with Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. He loved having cats for pets and was especially fond of “Pheezie.”
He leaves behind his wife Cindi; 2 sons Michael Rauh, last known to reside in Lakewood, and Stephen Rauh, last known to reside in Florida; 2 stepchildren Alison Gayton of Olean and David Gayton of N. Tonawanda; 3 grandchildren who were the loves of his life, Jasmine, Alexis and Kaeden; 5 great grandchildren, plus another great grandchild he was looking forward to the birth of; 4 sisters Janine (Jim) Maier of New Ellington, S.C., Nancy Nye of Cattaraugus, Michelle (Paige) Martin of Little Valley and Kathryn Rauh Wenke of Great Valley; 1 brother John (Janice) Rauh of Goochland, VA and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Steven Rauh; and 3 sisters, Danielle Rauh Leaskey, Joelle Murdock and Christine Yoffie.
Due to increasing COVID-19 concerns, the memorial service for Jim will be private.
Deacon Matt Wenke will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
