Bertha A. Bucher
Allegany, NY-- Bertha A. Bucher of the Four Mile Road died Wednesday (May 26, 2004) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born December 17, 1915 in Allegany, NY she was the daughter of Erich and Dora Gaspar Steiger. On September 19, 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany she married Frederick Bucher who predeceased her July 29, 1964.
Mrs. Bucher had been a resident of the Four Mile Road in Allegany most of her life and had worked as a secretary at Allegany High School for twenty two years.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Club. She was also a member of the Ladies Aide as well as the St. John’s Quilting Group. She had been active with the Sixty Plus Club and also the former Home Bureau. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and was a talented creel worker.
Surviving are two sons Allan (Carolyn) Bucher and Charles Bucher, both of Allegany; one daughter Jean Marie Bucher of Canandaigua; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister Marion Dale of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by one brother Robert Steiger and two sisters Frieda Amyotte and Dorothy Phillips.
Friends will be received today from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean. Visitation will continue on Saturday (May 29, 2004) from noon until 1:00pm in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Services will follow at 1:00pm in the church with Rev. Gerald leFeber to officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
