Paul J. Whitcher, Sr. "loving father, proud veteran" Olean, NY-- Paul J. Whitcher, Sr. of 1108 W. Connell St. entered into eternal rest Saturday (July 17, 2004) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center, Olean. Born July 12, 1915 in Gerry, NY he was the son of Melvin and Amanda Rounds Whitcher. On May 2, 1942 in Olean, NY he married Elizabeth Fraun who predeceased him March 2, 2004. Mr. Whitcher was a veteran of the US Army where he served as a sergeant during WWII and he fought during the invasion of Normandy. He was a resident of Allegany and Olean most of his life and was retired from the City of Olean Streets Department. Mr. Whitcher’s first love was for his wife of 62 years, his family and his dog Buster. He also excelled at gardening, love fishing and playing bingo, and he enjoyed holiday celebrations, especially Christmas. Surviving are four daughters Joan Babcock of Olean, Anita Lewis of Allegany, Paula Havers of Olean and Patty (James) Conner of Olean; one son Paul J. (Grace) Whitcher, Jr. of Franklinville; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two very special neighbors Jim Padlo and Rose Milchuck. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Tuesday (July 20, 2004) from noon until 2pm at which time funeral and committal services will be held. Rev. Ronald Reichman will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center 515 Main St. Olean, NY 14760.
