I'm profoundly saddened to learn of Lou's passing. I held him in the very highest regard. I'll especially miss our conversations about jazz. I send deepest sympathy and condolences to his family.

I was Dr. Leotta’s reader during the 1973-74 school year. I really liked working for him. The readings I recorded for him were so interesting. And I would read him student papers and write his comments on them. He often told me his dog Greta (whose name I never revealed), was the least competent dog he ever had. One day I was coming down the steps of Plassmann and walking toward the RC, and I saw him walking out of the RC doors with Greta. She galloped toward me (I’d also never touched her or treated her like a pet). He could barely keep his feet on the ground. Anyhow, she stopped in front of me and panted and he said, “Annie, girl, is that you?” I said yes, and he said, “I told you she was the dumbest dog I ever had.” I was also a student in his Urban History class; he was a brilliant teacher.
