DOUGLAS D. DANIELS "Loving companion, father and grandfather" OLEAN - Douglas D. Daniels of South Clark Street died unexpectedly on Tuesday August 10, 2004 at the Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo. Born in Olean on May 13, 1921 he was a son of John and Cordie Shorter Daniels. Mr. Daniels served in the United States Army during WWII where he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was employed as a foreman for the City of Olean Streets Department for many years, retiring in January of 1985. He was employed as a school crossing guard at West State Street and Fourth Street for the last five years. Doug enjoyed NASCAR, the Buffalo Bills and Tiger Woods. He loved to Barbeque. He was a member of the Olean VFW and the Portville American Legion. He is survived by his companion of many years, Betty Pierce, sons Douglas (Deborah) Daniels, Jr., Duane Daniels, both of Olean and Michael Gould of FL; daughters Deborah Daniels of Wellsville, NY and Theresa (John) Milian of Amherst, NY; brother Gene Daniels of Olean; five grandchildren and four step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 6 brothers and one sister. Friends will be received on Friday August 13, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean where funeral services will be held on Saturday (Aug. 14) at 1:00 PM. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. View Cemetery, veteran's field of honor. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
