Gus directed two plays that I played leading roles in Neil Simon's God's Favorite and Flowers for Algernon in my Junior and Senior years at Allegany (1980-1982).
I was fortunate to be able to see Gus multiple times in my return visits and recall his contagious enthusiasm.
He had a deep on impact on many lives.

Gus was the epitome of character and decency. He was a great mentor for young people in the arts. He allowed a lot of leeway in the development of our junior play. It was a rousing success. I can't imagine how difficult it was to guide us in that endeavor. It must have been like herding marbles up a hill. Still, he did it with gentle direction, kindness, encouragement and a smile on his face. Godspeed Gus! We will carry on here as best we can and pay it forward just as you had for all those years. - Mikel Wintermantel Class of 76

Though it was nice to see Mr. Napoleon's name, it was sad to see he has passed on. I want to thank him for his kind, patient and constant support as Advisor to the ACS Student Council for many years. He taught me how to survive in and lead meetings in an effective manner. His body is gone but his spirit lives on in so many of us that he touched!
Peace & love to his family!

Chris and family, I am sorry for your loss! There are those special teachers you have in your life that teach you values and life skill outside of the classroom. Mr Napoleon was one of them! I had him for Latin and English and remember always seeing him at church.

Chris, Joan and Jean, I’m so sorry for your loss. Gus was an incredible person that made a positive influence on not only myself, but to so many of our generation. I have many fond memories of Gus throughout high school. Whether is was cheering Chris and I on in baseball or football or just hanging out in your kitchen before or after one of our weekend romps. I started writing this with a heavy heart and tear in my eye, however it is bringing back so many happy memories that I will end today with a smile which only demonstrates the positive impact that Gus made on my life. Love to you all!

So sorry to hear of Gus's passing. He was the perfect gentleman. I first met him as a fellow cast member of OCT's Hello Dolly. He and his wife often came to Bradford and he was most gracious in his support of my theatre efforts, acting and directing. We always talked at theatre events. I always looked for him in the audience--he was usually there. I know I shall look for him every time and recall how much he'll be missed.

We are so sorry, and so touched by your loss. He touched many, in fact he was one that asked me some tough questions when I was hired for school nurse. Mikel had a blast with him as director for his junior play. He was also a great influence on Mikel as his literature teacher. We are sorry to miss the calling hours today, as we will be in Buffalo getting Aline moved in at college. You are in our thoughts, and our family sends our love. Mikel, Cheryl, Sam and Aline.

He has earned his reward in heaven but we will miss his nuggets of wisdom and his kind words. Goodbye old friend and may flights of angels lead you to your rest.
