John A. Marino
Olean, NY. John A. Marino of Olean passed away peacefully Thursday (July 19, 2018) at home, surrounded by loving family.
Born April 3, 1923 in Olean he was the son of Thomas G. and Carmela Lombardo Marino. He married Annette A. Bonaventure at the Annunciation Church in Buffalo on November 17, 1951. Annette, his wife, survives.
John was a 1941 graduate of Olean High School where he was a member of the Airplane Club, the Mathematics Club, and the New York State Honor League. He received a BS in Aeronautical Engineering in 1945 from the University of Michigan.
He began working at a young age by helping his father with the operation of the former Olean Temptation Ice Cream Co. until its closure in 1959. He then began a long career with Clark Bros. Co., now Dresser Rand, where he was granted two U.S. patents. He retired in 1986 as a product designer and as an engineer. His work took him around the world and after his retirement, he offered his talents as a consultant for both Dresser-Rand and Ingersoll Rand.
In addition to his successful career, John enjoyed many hobbies including camping, gardening, and woodworking. He built his own home and was a member of the American Welding Society. He was an avid reader and a member of St. Bonaventure Church.
Surviving besides his wife are 1 son Thomas (Holly) Marino of Olean; 1 daughter Camille (Peter) Montana of Clarence; 11 grandchildren Marc (Viktorija) Montana, Michelle Montana, Kristen (Jay) Lee, Peter (Cyndy) Montana, Matthew (Ashley) Marino, Lauren (Jeremy) Miller, Michael (Nina) Abrams, Andrew Abrams, John (Kristin) Marino, Joshua (Samantha) Marino, Joseph Marino, Michaela (Stephen) Potter and Jacob Marino; 11 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Tina Marino of Allegany; a son-in-law Arnold "Ozzie" Abrams of Las Vegas, NV and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Linda Marie Abrams in 2010; a son Louis J. Marino in 2015; a sister Mary K. Bordonaro in 2001; and a brother Harold Marino in 1982.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 3-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday (July 23, 2018) at 10am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
