Welner Charles Smith
Salamanca, NY     Welner Charles Smith, 78, died Monday evening, (January 8, 2018) at the Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born August 12, 1939 in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late Welner Alexander and Lillian Youngdale Smith. In 1963 in Cleveland, OH he married Patricia McFadden who survives.  
Mr. Smith served in the US Navy from 1957 to 1962 and was a Radioman aboard the USS Ault. He moved from Erie, PA to Salamanca in 1969 to work at WGGO Radio where he later served as news director.  He was also a local correspondent for the Buffalo Courier Express and other regional newspapers.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Patricia (McFadden) Smith of Westfield Center, OH; three sons, Shawn Smith of Westfield Center, OH, Brian Smith of Roanoke, VA and Kevin (Gretchen) Smith of Scottsdale, AZ; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was predeceased by one sister, Nancy Smith, and one son, Scott Smith.
There will be no visitation.  A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
