Gregory D. Stayer
Olean, NY Gregory D. Stayer, 46, of 516 York St. passed away peacefully Saturday (September 2, 2017) at home after a battle with cancer.
Born December 14, 1970 in Olean he was a son of John D. and Frances Zochowski Stayer. On October 7, 1995 in Rochester he married Colleen Devanny who survives.
Gregory was a 1989 graduate of Allegany Central School where he excelled in football and basketball. He also played football while a student at Alfred University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 1993.
He started his career in business by working for his father at Stayer Electric. In 2007 he established Greg Stayer Electric, which he had been operating successfully with the help of his two key employees Chris Mooney and Scott Kellogg.
Gregory was a member of St. Mary of the Angels parish. His family brought him much joy and his 3 girls were "his most prized possession". To them, he was a great guy and father. In addition, he loved going to the family camp and he was an avid fisherman and hunter, particularly turkey hunting.
In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his mother of Allegany; 3 daughters Hannah Stayer, Julia Stayer and Allie Stayer; 3 siblings Timothy (Janet) Stayer of N. Syracuse, Shawn (Karol) Stayer of Allegany and Linda (Larry) Martin of Allegany; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and his 2 best friends Wayde Savidge and his cousin Jimmy Stayer.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4-8pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A funeral service will be held Wednesday (September 6, 2017) at 10am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Rev. David Tourville will be the principal celebrant with Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, as a concelebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
