We are SO sad to hear of Ron's passing. He was such a good man. I met Ron at the Gun Club when my son Peter was trap shooting in the winter and I went into the little house with the wood stove to warm up. Ron had the gift for gab. My son and I loved that about him. He took my son under his wing and mentored him (for lack of better words.) I introduced Ron to my father and the two men hit it off as the saying goes, and I knew they would. They both shared an appreciation for guns and a love for my son Peter. Ron would call my house every now and again after trap ended and would invite My son to various other trap/gun club events in the area and the two would go. Peter would return smiling ear to ear and tell stories of their adventure of the day and share how his marksmanship fell far superior to Ron's. I used to think for the longest time that Ron used to do that on purpose, you know how you let a child win at a game of checkers....then one Sunday afternoon my son comes home and tells me that He was told by some other men Ron's own age that Ron couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. We all laughed. That's when we realized, when I realized that Ron wasn't doing this, taking Peter out trap shooting across the southern tier for his own health - he was doing it for Peter.
Shortly after that ah ha moment for me, I went to see him at his home and thanked him personally.
My son Peter is now going to be 22 and an Illinois Institute of Technology Graduate and currently living in Chicago since 2013.
Our family was blessed to have known Ron Wedlock.
