Obituary of Janet D. Witnauer Shaffer
Olean- Janet D. Witnauer Shaffer of 606 Irving Street, Olean, passed away Saturday (May 13, 2017) at the Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean, after a lengthy illness.
Born August 5, 1952 in Buffalo, she was the daughter of Norman and Delores Trobert Witnauer.
She was a graduate of Williamsville North High School and attended Alfred State College.
Janet had worked for Both, Branch and Hendrix Inc. in Olean as a licensed insurance agent for several years. She also served on the board for Directions in Independent Living in Olean, and was a longtime member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Olean.
In her free time, Janet enjoyed sitting on her back porch watching hummingbirds, as well as volunteering with the local Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Surviving is one son Darick (Suzanne) Shaffer of Allegany, one daughter Kristen (Robert Scott) Shaffer of Olean; one brother James (Lynne) Witnauer of Pendleton; one sister Donna (Donald) Denk of Pataskala, OH; one sister in law Carol Witnauer of Pendleton; and her very dear and close friends Donna Gustason, Lucille Dombrowski, Chad Ketchner, and Greta Chai.
She was predeceased by her parents and one brother Ronald Witnauer.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean, on Thursday from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday (May 19, 2017) beginning with a 9:30am prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial, at St. John's Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
