Gordon M. George
Allegany, NY Gordon M. George of 3731 Birch Run Rd. entered into the arms of the Lord on Friday (April 21, 2017) at Absolut Care of Allegany.
Born February 6, 1933 in East Hamburg he was the son of Elmer and Florence Smith George. On June 13, 1953 in Franklinville he married Rose Ann Skiver who predeceased him December 29, 2011.
Mr. George was a veteran of the US Army where he served two years during the Korean War and continued serving with the US Army Reserves until 1961.
He had been employed by several business and industries in the area including Alcas Cutlery, Clark Brothers and Wheeling Corrugated. He worked for several years as a truck driver for Fitzpatrick and Weller in Ellicottville prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he was very active over the years including serving along with his wife as a Sunday school teacher. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating and camping.
He is survived by his three children Kathleen (Kim Weber) Fisk, Thomas (Carol) George and Lynn (Dennis) Stillman, all of Allegany; 3 grandchildren Phillip (Diana) Fisk, Christopher Stillman and Shawna Stillman; 2 brothers Paul George of Warsaw and Robert (Millie) George of Pennsylvania; 1 sister Arlene Bice of Hawaii and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by two brothers Edward George and Richard George and a sister Dorothy "Sis" George.
A visitation will be held on Sunday (April 30, 2017) from 1-2pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A memorial service will be held at 2pm in the funeral home. Rev. Suzanne Block, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Allegany Cemetery.
