Obituary of Clara M. Pfeiffer

Olean- Clara M. Pfeiffer, 95, of 1211 River St., Olean passed away Wednesday (November 9, 2016) at her home, after a short illness. Born May 17, 1921 in Olean, she was the daughter of Charles and Johana Nolder Wenke. She married Edward C. Pfeiffer on March 17, 1946 at Mission San Luis Rey, California, where Edward was serving in the United States Marine Corp. He predeceased her on January 23, 2001. Clara was a graduate of Olean High School. She had been employed by Acme Electric in Allegany and later by CONAP, where she retired in 1986. She returned to working at the several places, but her favorite and final job was at the Southern Tier Catholic School (S.T.C.S.) as a nursery school aide (where she was know as Gramma Clair). She retired from there at the age of 90. She was a member of St. John's Church in Olean. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling and camping with her family. Her favorite trip was in a motor home to San Diego, California then up the west coast to Bellingham, Washington where her brother resided. Clara is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Routly of Rochester, Mary Jill (Jim) Coon of Olean, Gail Pfeiffer of Olean; three grandchildren, Christopher Routly and Scott (Jill) Routly, both of Rochester, and Beth (Trevor) Burlingame of Lakewood; four great-grandchildren; Danielle Routly of Baltimore, MD, Mitchell Routly and Ethan Routly both of Rochester, and Matthew Burlingame of Lakewood; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son-in-law Thomas Routly, five brothers, Francis, Raymond, Charles, Richard, and Joseph Wenke, three sisters Mary Letro, Dorothy White, and her twin sister Coletta Ennis Yehl. She will be sadly missed by her family and very special friends, including her extended family Carmella, Francesca, and Jennifer Bartimole, Christine and Brandon Olivares, and John Bartimole. And her special pet, Gracie. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Street, Olean today, Friday (November 11, 2016) from 6-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (November 12, 2016) beginning with a 12:30pm prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm at St. John's Church, in Olean. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to HomeCare and Hospice, 1225 W. State Street, Olean or to a charity of the donor's choice.
