Obituary of Raymond L. Magara, Sr.

Allegany, NY Raymond L. Magara, Sr., of 2265 N. Nine Mile Road passed away Wednesday (December 30, 2015) at the Buffalo General Hospital, after a sudden illness. Born February 3, 1943 in Salamanca, he was the son of Walter and Francis Kozloski Magara. On February 17, 1968 at St. John the Baptist Church in Vandalia, he married Marjorie Havers who predeceased him October 8, 1998. Mr. Magara attended Salamanca High School. He worked for forty-two years at St. Bonaventure University as a painter in the maintenance department. In his earlier years as a Salamanca resident he was a volunteer fireman for the City of Salamanca. In his free time, Mr. Magara enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking trips to the Casino and playing Bingo. Surviving are his longtime companion JoAnn London of Hinsdale; one daughter Lisa Shelly of Olean; two sons Raymond M. Magara, Jr., of Allegany, Jason (Marie Pittman) Magara of Allegany; four grandchildren Raymond M. Magara, III, Dana Magara, Keith Magara and Jailynn Magara; several great-grandchildren; one brother Walter Magara of Jamestown; two sisters Shirley Emerson of Ellicottville and Rosemary (Joseph) Kennedy of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by, two sisters Agnes Guskowski and Catherine McManus; and two brothers Frank Magara and James Magara. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road Olean on Monday (January 4, 2016) from 1-4 and 6-7pm. Funeral services will begin at 7pm in the funeral home.
