Obituary of Irene M. Fitzmaurice

Irene M. Fitzmaurice Olean, NY Irene M. Fitzmaurice of 305 N. 2nd St. passed away Wednesday (December 23, 2015) at the Olean General Hospital. Born October 31, 1926 in Salamanca she was the daughter of Joseph and Rosalie Skrzypczak Smuskiewicz. On May7, 1949 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean she married Charles F. Fitzmaurice who predeceased her April 23, 1993. Mrs. Fitzmaurice was a 1945 graduate of Salamanca High School and had worked in Olean as a secretary for Raub Supply Co. For several years she attended St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany where she sang in the church choir and was active with the Altar and Rosary Society. More recently she was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church. She was also a longtime member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. Surviving are a brother Richard (Veronica) Smuskiewicz of Sacramento, CA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 7 brothers Stanley Smuskiewicz, Steven Smuskiewicz, Edward Smuskiewicz, Anthony Smuskiewicz, Thomas Smuskiewicz, Joseph Smuskiewicz, Jr. and Francis Smuskiewicz Friends will be received on Monday from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (December 29, 2015) beginning with a prayer service at 11:00am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church, 202 S. Union St. Olean, NY 14760.
