Robert E. Tompkins "loving brother and uncle" Olean, NY-- Robert E. Tompkins, a former Olean resident died Saturday (November 20, 2004) in the Bradford Manor where he had resided for the past four years. Born February 13, 1932 in Wellsville, NY he was the son of Charles J. and Elizabeth Walton Tompkins. On September 16, 1972 he married Janet M. Caton who predeceased him in November 2001. Mr. Tompkins had resided in Olean since 1941 and had been employed as a custodian for the former Castle Restaurant, Pickup’s Diner and the Olean House. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and formerly served as a deacon. He enjoyed collecting turquoise Indian jewelry, fishing and he especially enjoyed activities with family and friends over the years. Surviving are two brothers Richard Burdick of Sarasota, FL and William (Ann) Tompkins of Oborne, Maine; three sisters Betty Clute of Dalton, NY, Katherine Cole of Sarasota, FL and Sharon Tompkins and several nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held Wednesday (November 24, 2004) at 1:30pm in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean, NY.
