i just learned today of Bob's passing in a text from another college room mate. Bob and I shared on campus and off campus housing. Tom Jennings let me know who also shared a house with us. I couldn't be more devastated. My prayers are with the family. In Hoc Harlow!

Dr. Harlan was one of my favorite professors. I took every course he offered while I was at SBU. He was my professor for my independent study in Robotics. I also was a TA in his CS 101 lab. He was a good professor and a great friend. St. Bonaventure will never be the same without him.

Dr. Harlan was an amazing teacher; one who instilled excitement and wonder into the courses he taught. I graduated in 1992 with a CS degree from St. Bonaventure. He was so much a part of that department and that degree that a graduate cannot begin to remember those times without including Dr. Harlan. He was not only a great teacher and influencer (is that a word?) but he also was a fun, happy, and caring man. I have so many fun memories of Dr. Harlan. He and I share a birthday and I live in Indianapolis so the last time we talked, we talked about the Indy 500, that he attended every year, and I tried to sway him from his devotion to the Purdue Boilermakers (go IU) - it didn't work! I am shocked and saddened by his untimely death and I pray for peace for his wife and family. The world is a better place because Dr. Harlan lived and touched so many lives along the way. RIP Dr. Harlan.

I had Dr Harlan as a professor back in the 80's! He was a great teacher and just an all around great guy. I have very fond memories of him and the classes I took from him. He will certainly be missed by all. I saw him in Mickeys eating dinner just a few Fridays ago. Who would have thought it would be the last time I'd see him. Life is short! My prayers go out to his family! So sorry!

Bob was one example of the phrase "a gentleman and a scholar" being perfectly applicable. I was proud to have known him as "Mike". Heartfelt condolences to the Harlan family, his many friends and former associates and students. Blessings and prayers...

Bob and I were in the same cohort, as we both came to St. Bonaventure in 1979. What a shock to lose him so early. And what a shame that he did not get to enjoy a longer retirement. He was extremely intelligent, a hard-worker, and a valuable colleague and friend.
