Obituary of Vera L. Carr

Vera L. Carr Hinsdale, NY Vera L. Carr of 2663 Button Rd. passed into the arms of the Lord on Saturday (June 5, 2015) at the Olean General Hospital. Born May 28, 1923 in Cold Spring she was the daughter of Jason and Vella Stevens Edwards. On May 5, 1945 in Bradford, PA she married C. Wayne Carr who predeceased her November 13, 2006. Mrs. Carr attended school in Cuba and began work at the former Acme Electric Co. in Cuba. She later operated the restaurant located at the Maplehurst Livestock Auction as well as worked in the cafeteria at Hinsdale Central School. For many years she helped her husband operate his family's dairy farm in Hinsdale. She was a member of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church, the Hinsdale Grange and the Fay Hollow Sunshine Club. She also was active with the Hinsdale Guys and Gals as well as having served on the Election Board for the town of Ischua. In her retirement years she enjoyed square dancing and traveling with her husband. Surviving are 2 sons Larry (Judy) Carr and Randy (Ann) Carr, both of Hinsdale; 1 daughter Carol (Keith) Trask of Charlotte, NC; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 1 brother George (Elizabeth) Edwards of Cuba; 1 sister Marie (Browniflaus) Lewandowski of Black Creek; 1 sister-in-law Donna Edwards of Asheville, NC and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 4 brothers Gerald Edwards, Walter Edwards, Jason Edwards and Billy Edwards and 3 sisters Dorothy Maine, her twin sister Verna Henneman and Phyllis Wight. Friends will be received on Monday from 1-3 & 6-8pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Visitation will continue on Tuesday (June 9, 2015) from 10-11am with services to begin at 11am in the funeral home. Rev. Richard "Buck" Young, pastor of Hinsdale United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hinsdale Cemetery.
