Lucy A. Bianco Hoffman
"Legendary Restaurant Owner and Operator"
Olean, NY-Lucy A. Bianco Hoffman, of Olean, recently of Eden Heights died Easter Sunday (April 12, 2009) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness.
Born September 24, 1931 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Oranzio and Mary Grace Bianco Bianco. On July 3, 1953 at St. John's Church in Olean she married Albert A. "Al" Hoffman who predeceased her November 28, 1983.
Mrs. Hoffman was a lifelong resident of Olean and had first been employed in the family business, the Bianco Grocery. Since 1963, she and her husband owned and operated The Silver Slipper Restaurant and the former Hofbrau Restaurant. She continued running the Silver Slipper after his death until the present. For many years her restaurant sponsored the Olean Softball League and she was one of the original founders of the annual Allegheny River Regatta.
She was a member of St. John's Church in Olean and also was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the VFW Auxiliary and the Olean American Legion Auxiliary. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Surviving are 1 daughter Diane M. Nenno of Olean; 1 son David A. (Cindy Brandes) Hoffman of Allegany; 6 grandchildren Andrew Joseph Nenno, Erika Casey Nenno, Nickolas Albert Nenno, Nathan Hoffman, Nicholas Hoffman and Kristy Hoffman; 1 great granddaughter Riley Marie Evingham; 2 sisters Thomasine (Dennis) Aiello of Olean and Mickalena (Eugene) Puvel of Great Valley, several nieces and nephews, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and special friends Rosie Kozlowski of Allegany and Dorothy Brunner of Hinsdale.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (April 16, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. John's Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Bianco Family Mausoleum in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held Wednesday evening at 8:30pm.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
