Oscar G. Haight
Allegany-Oscar G. Haight, 93, of 842 Four Mile Road, passed away Thursday (February 5, 2009) at Absolut of Allegany after a lengthy illness.
Born November 8, 1915 in Blue Jay, Pa, he was the son of the late Curtis Jackson and Evelena Gadley Haight. On March 31, 1942 in Ridgeland, South Carolina, he married Mabel Doris Roberson who survives.
Mr. Haight was enlisted in the United State Army Air Corps from 1941-1945, serving during World War II as a Staff Sergeant of the China, Bermuda, India Air service command 323rd Air Service Squadron in the 305th Air Service Group. He received a Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.
He was employed for and retired from Dresser Clark Bros. in 1980, after 27 years of service. He had also worked as an auto mechanic as well as in the oil field industry. In his free time Oscar enjoyed traveling. He also loved to bowl, play darts and play euchre. He was also a member of the Allegany 60 Plus Club.
Surviving besides his wife of 66 years are 3 daughters Janice (David) Herron of Syracuse, Brenda Nolder of New Bern NC, Carol Haight of Olean; 2 sons Donald (Lesley Rowe) Haight of Portville and Alan Haight Sr., of Allegany; 12 grand children; 15 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son Stanley Lee Haight; 5 brothers Burdette Haight, Harold Haight, Nathan Haight, Jack Haight, an infant brother; 3 sisters Lyda (Robert) Paugh, Louella Mountain and Armeda Boyd.
There will be no visitation. A private family memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany American Legion or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
