Obituary of Evelyn Ottewell

Evelyn D. Smith Ottewell "Loving Mother and Grandmother" Laguna Beach, CA Evelyn D Ottewell, 88, formerly of Hinsdale, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday (January 21, 2015) while her family was by her side. Born July 12, 1926 in Olean, NY she was the only child of George and Mae Smith. Evelyn graduated from Hinsdale Central School and later married Alan Ottewell who predeceased her. In 1957 she moved to Michigan where she lived most of her life, most recently in Gaylord, MI. In 1968 Evelyn became a Licensed Practical Nurse after graduating from the Shapero School of Practical Nursing in Detroit Michigan. She first worked in hospitals in the Detroit area and later at Bertram Chaffee Hospital in Springville. Evelyn lived a full life centered on serving the Lord and others. She enjoyed walking, swimming, reading and being with her grandchildren. She is survived by six daughters, Sharon (Ed) Gould of Bonners Ferry, ID; Sarah Drake of Rochester Hills, MI; Marlene (Tom) Overheul of Holland, MI; Darlene (Lawrence) Selph of Ischua; Dianne McCoy of Lakeland, FL and Linda (Craig) Pfent of Laguna Beach, CA, 17 grandchildren Holly (Bart) Haynes, Brooke Blessum, Albert (Michelle) Nagy, Andrea (Craig) Fetterman, Jennifer (Chris) Shafer, Lawrence (Jill) Selph, Timothy (Tami) Selph, Lorana Selph, Aaron (Sharri) Kelley, Michael (Laura) Kelley, Jessica (Chris) Belsha, Megan (Lew) Rutkin, Kenneth Wummell, Alexie Beran, Margeaux Beran Madison Beran, Gabrielle Beran and 23 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday (January 31, 2015) from 4-6pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Burial will take place at the Hinsdale Cemetery in Maplehurst. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Olean General Hospital Pediatrics Unit, 515 Main St. Olean, NY 14760 or the Alzheimer's Association.
