Allegany, NY-- Dorothy M. Fortuna of 81 N. 2nd St. died Monday (December 20, 2004) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center, Olean.
Born June 21, 1921 in Olean she was the daughter of Charles George and Helen Goodsell O’Laughlin. She was married to Robert Lampack who predeceased her. On July 2, 1949 in Olean she married Peter P. Fortuna who predeceased her November 29, 1998.
Mrs. Fortuna was a lifelong resident of the area having graduated from Olean High School in 1940. She worked in the munitions factory in Eldred, PA during World War II and later worked for Acme Electric in Allegany. She was then employed by Cutlery Associates in Allegany for many years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the Sixty Plus Club of Allegany. She enjoyed taking trips, traveling to the casino and playing bingo. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time shopping with them.
Surviving are 2 sons Robert Lampack of Allegany and Ronald (Barb) Fortuna of Essex, CT; 3 daughters Debby Fortuna of Chicago, IL, Becky (Don) Black of W. Palm Beach, FL and Sally Shaffer of Allegany; 7 grandchildren Stephanie, Kristen, Matt, Tony, Mandy, Melissa and Donna and 4 great grandchildren Britta, Steele, Greta and Salma; 1 brother Robert (Peg) George of Sebring, FL and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands she was predeceased by a stepfather Howard O’Laughlin and a sister Irene Straight.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 7-9pm and Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (December 24, 2004) beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to the Sixty Plus Club, Town Hall Building Allegany, NY 14706.
