Obituary of Hubert Smith

Hinsdale- Hubert E. Smith, of 4926 Union Hill Road, Hinsdale, passed away Tuesday (January 6, 2015) at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean, were he had been residing for many years. Born December 27, 1928 in New Martinsville, West Virginia, he was the son of Leslie and Goldie Jones Smith. He married Jean M. Checksfield, who survives. Mr. Smith worked as the director of finance at the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children Mari (Paul) Fratarcangelo of Olean, John Smith of Hawaii, Laura Marie (Ralph) Makaiau of Hawaii, Avis Reichert of Liverpool; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters Elma Elizabeth Smith and Carol Ann Groves and one sister. At Mr. Smith's request, there will be no services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean.
