Obituary of Mary Barrett

"Loving Wife, Mother, Nana and Friend" Olean- Mary Ellen "Fish" Barrett, 66, of 134 N. 7th Street in Olean, passed away Tuesday (November 11, 2014) at the Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born May 10, 1948 in Olean, she was the daughter of Clifford and Mary Catherine Simmons Fisher. She was first married to Thomas Frederick Burlingame, Jr. on July 27, 1968. On September 5, 1998 in Olean she married Daniel Barrett, who survives. Mrs. Barrett was a graduate of Olean High School Class of 1966. She worked at the former Bradner's Department Store, Cole's Interiors, Community Action, Campbell (Griffith) Oil and later retired as Olean Deputy City Clerk. She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and served as a Stephen Minister. Mrs. Barrett enjoyed swimming, roller skating, square dancing, gardening, traveling with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her former husband and friend, Fred; four children Craig (Mindy) Burlingame of Buffalo, Laura (Mark Thompson) Burlingame of Olean, Corey Barrett of Richmond, VA, Corina (Patrick) McDonough of Wausau, WI; six grandchildren Thomas, Riley, Conner, Owen, Avary "Ava" and Victoria; one sister Silvia (Bill) Scheminger of Olean; one brother Clifford "Kip" (Karen) Fisher of Walworth, NY; three brothers-in-law Pat (Sue) Barrett, Mike (Nancy) Barrett, Roy (Debbie) Burlingame; two sisters-in-law Marlene (Bill) Stephens, Jean (David) Spence; a goddaughter Lisa (Kier) Dirlam; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Janet Aaron, a beloved former mother-in-law Luella Evans Stark, her longtime friend Cheryl Peters and a brother-in-law Randy Barrett. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (November 15, 2014) beginning with a 9:30 prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. David Tourville will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Donations if desired may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing Center 6725 Lyons St. PO Box 7, East Syracuse NY 13057.
