Obituary of Alice Parks

Allegany, NY Alice C. Parks, 95, of Allegany died peacefully Monday (September 29, 2014) at the Bradford Manor in Bradford, PA following a long illness. Born August 11, 1919 in Buffalo she received her B.S. in Education from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1941. On August 15, 1942 she married Walter S. Parks of Buffalo who predeceased her May 4, 2013. Mrs. Parks taught in the Cheektowaga school system from 1941 until 1962. In 1963 she moved to Allegany with her family and joined the Newcomers Club, becoming its vice president in 1965. She also participated as a chaperone in the 1967 Miss New York State pageant when it was held in Olean. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and participated as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and choir member for a number of years. In 2009 she was awarded the Francis Medal from the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus from the Order of Friars Minor for her contribution to the values and ideals of St. Francis of Assisi. Surviving are two daughters Madelynn (Bruce) Fredrickson of Franklinville and Andrea (Richard) Pernick of Tonawanda; a son Walter Gregory Parks of Allegany; four grandchildren Lynn Fredrickson of Buffalo, Jon (Tammy) Fredrickson of Lockport, Jan (John) Thome of West Amherst and Brian (Kari) Pernick of Tonawanda; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her five brothers, seven sisters and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Thursday from 4-8pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (October 3, 2014) beginning with a prayer service at 11:00am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bonaventure Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
