He was very active physically with mountain biking, soccer, freestyle skiing and running and was a passionate fan of University of Michigan football and Formula I racing. Nic loved his pet cat "Toni".
During the past few years Nicolas had worked part-time as a grounds keeper for St. Bonaventure Parish, worked for Potter Lumber Co., and most recently for the Department of Environmental Conservation, principally as a surveyor's assistant.
Surviving are his parents of Allegany; a sister Bethany Pendl at home; his maternal grandmother Mary Frances Potter of Allegany; his paternal grandmother Mary Jane Pendl of Bethpage, NY and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Francis X. Pendl and his maternal grandfather Robert G. Potter.
