Obituary of Arthur Scharf

Olean- Arthur T. Scharf, formerly of Tonawanda, died Thursday (June 12, 2014) at the Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean. Born March 17, 1929 in Buffalo, he was the son of Theodore and Marie Haeffler Scharf. He first married the former Irene Laing on June 17, 1950. She died Feb 3, 2000. In 2001, he married Kay Messana who survives. Mr. Scharf enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1952-1954. He had been employed at the Marine Midland Bank in Buffalo as the branch manager, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. John's Evangical Lutheran Church in West Seneca and served as treasurer. He was a fifty plus year member of the West Seneca Lions Club, and also served on the board of trustees at the Greenfields Adult Continuing Care Facility in Lancaster. Surviving are two sons Michael (Sue) Scharf of W. Seneca, David (Ada) Scharf of Olean; four grandchildren Jason (Courtney) Scharf, Joshua Scharf, Elizabeth (Andy) Pappas and Nathan Scharf; two great-grandsons Jaiden and Luke Scharf. A memorial service will be held on Sunday (July 6, 2014) at 3pm at St. John's Evangical Lutheran Church 3512 Clinton Street, West Seneca, with a visitation to follow the service. Burial will take place at St. John's Evangical Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to St. John's Evangical Lutheran Church or to The Greenfields 5979 Broadway, Lancaster, NY 14088.
