Palm Harbor, FL- Rose S. Mathias of Palm Harbor FL, formerly of Lewiston, NY, Las Cruces, NM and Atlanta, GA, passed away Monday (April 14, 2014), surrounded by her loving family. Born December 23, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph Burke and Rose McElhone Sullivan. On September 7, 1940, she married Thomas R. Mathias who predeceased her on January 2, 1988. Mrs. Mathias volunteered with Stephen's Ministry in Atlanta, Georgia and she enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. Surviving are her four children Margaret (Kenneth) Klespies of Oldsmar, FL, Elizabeth (John) Kozak Lake Forest, IL, Thomas (Ann) Mathias of Lancaster, NY, Mary (John) Baldwin of Atlanta, GA.; ten grandchildren Jennifer Stout, Margaret Lynch, Suzanne Carroll, Jeremy Ley, Brent Klespies, William E. Mathias, Erin Mathias, Thomas Mathias, Christine Baldwin and Michelle Capecelatro. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road on Monday (April 21, 2014) from 11:30-12:30pm. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 1pm at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church will officiate. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials if desired may be made to the Franciscan Institute at St. Bonaventure University.
