Obituary of Muriel Sweitzer

Muriel E. Sweitzer Allegany, NY Muriel E. Sweitzer of 720 Lippert Hollow Rd. passed away Thursday (March 6, 2014) at the Olean General Hospital after an illness. Born March 12, 1938 in Buffalo she was the daughter of Gerald and Esther Klehn Herschfield. In 1970 she married Robert L. Sweitzer who predeceased her June 3, 2003. Mrs. Sweitzer graduated from Maryvale High School in Cheektowaga and later attended Buffalo State College. She had been a resident of Allegany for the past thirty three years and worked as an activities director at various non-profit businesses in Olean, most recently as a volunteer coordinator and aftercare provider for the Genesis House. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and, as one who took pleasure in helping others, served on the Board of Directors for The Bridge, an outreach service of the church and also served as a volunteer for the Compeer Group of the Mental Health Association of Cattaraugus County for many years. Surviving are 2 sons Albert G. (Kim) Previte of Estill Springs, TN and Darryl R. Sweitzer of Orchard Park; 2 grandchildren Autumn Sweitzer and Summer Sweitzer; 2 sisters Gail (Timothy) Rothleder of Cheektowaga and Frances (Alvin) Bendes of Amherst and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm where a prayer service will be held Monday (March 10, 2014) at 9:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30am at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Genesis House or to the Mental Health Association of Cattaraugus County. Online condolences may be expressed at oleanfuneralhome.com.
