Obituary of Elizabeth Franz

Elizabeth M. "Winnie" Franz Olean, NY Elizabeth M. "Winnie" Franz of 1612 Avenue B passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (January 1, 2014) at the Olean General Hospital. Born March 26, 1933 in Olean she was the daughter of Percy Simon Jr. and Dorothy Billings. On December 31, 1949 at St. Patrick's Church in Salamanca she married Anthony S. "Tony" Franz who predeceased her April 5, 1998. Mrs. Franz worked at the former Annie and Johnny's Restaurant in Olean prior to becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed raising a family, cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, was kind to animals and loved her dog "Dolly", her constant companion. Surviving are one son Robert (Diane) Franz, Sr. of Olean; two daughters Anita (Michael) Sharp of Cuba and Debbie (Gary) Crandall of Murphy, TX; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a special friend Rose Milchuck of Olean. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a grandson Billy Franz and a brother Russell Simon. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A prayer service will be held Monday (January 6, 2014) at 9:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. John's Church. Msgr William Wangler will be the celebrant in the absence of Pastor Edward Sheedy. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
