Virginia A. "Ginny" Sterling
Allegany, NY Virginia A. "Ginny" Sterling, a longtime resident of the Five Mile Road and formerly of Portville passed away peacefully Tuesday (November 19, 2013) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean, surrounded by her loving family.
Born February 28, 1936 in Parker, PA she was the daughter of James A. and Nellie P. Logan Nunamaker. On June 30, 1956 at the former First Methodist Church in Olean she married Earl C. Sterling who survives.
Mrs. Sterling was a graduate of Olean High School and was first employed by the former Kresge's Department Store. She was later employed by the Olean Times Herald for several years. She enjoyed playing bingo and especially enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
Surviving besides her husband are five children Diane (Greg) Walker of Portville, Patricia (Dennis) Shaffer of Richfield, NC, Earl (Nikki) Sterling of Portville, William (Donna) Sterling of Portville and Pamela (Lance) Appleby of Little Genesee; seventeen grandchildren; three great granddaughters; two brothers James W. (Doris) Nunamaker of Amherst, OH and William C. (Enid) Nunamaker of Tampa, FL; five sisters Grace Nunamaker of Olean, Margaret (Jake) Hatzell of Portville, Patricia L. (Michael) Jacopille of Boxford, MA, Rebecca (Carlos) Miller of Loveland, CO and Susan (Robert) Cisco of Gulf Port, MS; many nieces and nephews and Bob (Janie) Holtz of Portville whom she loved like a son. She was soon to become "Grandma" to another great granddaughter.
She was predeceased by two brothers Samuel Nunamaker and Donald "Bud" Nunamaker and a daughter-in-law Melissa A. Sterling.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Saturday (November 23, 2013) from noon to 1pm at which time a service of remembrance will be celebrated.
