Cheryl L. Stetz
Allegany, NY Cheryl L. Stetz of 44 Harriet Street passed away Friday (November 8, 2013) at Olean General Hospital after a brief illness, with her family by her side.
Born March 2, 1949 in Olean she was the daughter of Charles L. VanDeusen Jr. and H. Louise Prosser. On May 20, 1977 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Olean she married Thomas W. Stetz, who survives.
Cheryl was a 1967 graduate of Olean High School and graduated from Olean Business Institute. She was employed for 18 years in the purchasing department at Dresser Rand, and later worked for the NYS Family Court in Olean for 22 years before her retirement.
She was a longtime member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and also a member of the Allegany Area Historical Association. In her leisure time she enjoyed walking and reading. She had a strong interest in history and enjoyed touring historic sites, especially Gettysburg. She attended the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College annually for many years and she was also a member of the Gettysburg Foundation and the Civil War Trust.
Surviving besides her husband are a son Kyle (Nancy) Stetz of Rocky Mount, NC; a brother David (Nancy) VanDeusen of Olean; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law John (Sharon) Wood of Gasport; two nephews Keith VanDeusen and Matt Wood; two nieces Karie Farwell and Sarah Marcello; an uncle Robert VanDeusen of Hanover, PA and a cousin Darrell (Carrie) VanDeusen.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday (November 10, 2013) from 3-6pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (November 11, 2013) at 11:00am at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Kim Rossi, rector, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
