Olean, NY Darrel W. Torrey of 766 Jones Rd. passed away Tuesday (October 15, 2013) shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital.
Born November 19, 1944 in Olean he was the son of William A. and Glenna Nestor Torrey. He was first married to Elizabeth Dwaileebe on March 31, 1962. They later divorced. On January 26, 1985 he married Carolyn A. Connelly who survives.
Mr. Torrey was a 1962 graduate of Olean High School where he excelled on the football team. He had been employed for his whole career for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation with most of those years working as a lineman.
He was a member of the BPO Elk's Lodge #491 of Olean, the Loyal Order of the Moose in Olean, the Pulaski Club and the Bradford, Pa. Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2431. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed all sports, especially league softball and also hunting, fishing, golfing and boating.
Surviving besides his wife are four daughters Pamela (Kevin) Peck of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Lisa (Steve) Zlockie of Olean, Karen (Jeff) Gates of Destin, FL and Rae (Lance) Havens of Olean; ten grandchildren Tara Linnan, Erika Linnan, Alicia Spear, Heather Winiarz, Erin Zlockie, Shane Torrey, Chelsey Torrey, Bridget Havens, Angela Havens and Eric Havens; six great grandchildren Aaliya, Ava, Joey, Arya, Kalem and Ian; one brother David (Roberta) Torrey of Ransomville; one sister Christine (Mike Bowser) Tincher of Olean; nieces and nephews Derek, Kelly, Brent, Stephen, Timothy, Logan, Emily and Patrick; a mother-in-law Patricia Connelly of Olean; one sister-in-law Judy (Steve) Darrow of Churchville and one brother-in-law Michael Connelly of Olean.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Raymond Leslie Torrey on February 21, 1958 and a father-in-law Patrick Connelly.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Saturday (October 19, 2013) from 11:00am until 1:00pm at which time funeral services will be held.
