James E. Thierman
Allegany, NY James E. Thierman of 202 Jefferson Ave. passed away Thursday (Sept. 5, 2013) at the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Nov. 7, 1928 in Olean he was the son of George and Abbie Allen Thierman. On June 2, 1951 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean he married Ellen Hyde who survives.
Mr. Thierman was a graduate of Olean High School and had worked for Dresser Industries for 43 years, retiring in Dec. of 1990.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Olean Area Federal Credit Union for over 35 years and had been inducted into the Credit Union Assoc. of New York's Hall of Fame in 2005. He was also a member and past president of the United Steelworkers Assoc. Local #4601.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #616 and was a member of 60+ of Allegany. He enjoyed maintaining his home, puttering and fixing things as needed. He especially enjoyed the family time spent at the cottage at Lime Lake as well as his winter home in Lakeland, FL.
Surviving besides his wife are five children Linda (Ron) Klampt of Olean, Susan (Greg) Giermek of Olean, Mike (Kathy) Thierman of Allegany, Cindy Do of Doylestown, PA and Terry (Kate) Thierman of Erie, PA; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister Marie Evens and a brother George "Rook" Thierman.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (September 9, 2013) beginning with a prayer service at 9:00am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Bonaventure Church.
