Charles "Charlie" Phearsdorf
Allegany, NY Charles "Charlie" Phearsdorf of 2985 N. Nine Mile Rd. passed away Saturday (April 27, 2013) with his family at his side.
Born February 11, 1930 in Olean he was the son of George C. and Lillian M. Frailer Phearsdorf. On November 5, 1950 at St. George's By The River Episcopal Church in Rumson, NJ he married Joan L. Davies who survives.
Mr. Phearsdorf was a 1947 graduate of Salamanca High School. He worked on the family farm for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served with the 438th Army Engineers during the Korean War from 1949 until 1952.
As a resident of Salamanca and Allegany most of his life, he was a hard working man who operated the family farm and also worked for thirty years for the St. Bonaventure University maintenance department until 1993.
He held the position of trustee of the Allegany Cemetery Association for many years, was a strong supporter of both the Salamanca Historical Society and the Allegany Historical Society and was active with the Air Force Association and the Korean War Veterans Association. He also was a member of the Model T Club of America, the Allegany Sixty Plus Club and the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892 where he had received the Legionnaire of the Year Award. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a former advisor for the Boy Scout Troup #677 of Allegany. He was associated with several area musical groups including the Allegany Alumni and Friends Band and was a charter member of the former Allegany Band Parents. He also associated with the Twin Tiers Community Band and the Rushford Town Band. A lifelong passion of his was roller-skating.
Surviving besides his wife are four children Pam (Robert) Olkosky, Bill (Debbie) Phearsdorf, Sr., Nancy (Robert Silvis) Phearsdorf and Gary (Lori) Phearsdorf, all of Allegany; ten grandchildren Michael (Beth Dixon) Olkosky, Emily Olkosky, Amy Olkosky, Timothy Olkosky, Bill Phearsdorf, Jr., Captain Adam (Maigen O' Toole) Phearsdorf, Elizabeth (Chris Fortuna) Phearsdorf, Garret (Audrey) Phearsdorf, Nolan Phearsdorf and McKenna Phearsdorf; five great grandchildren Molly Olkosky, Brayden Phearsdorf, Abel Phearsdorf, Brittany Phearsdorf and Brandon Phearsdorf; one sister Barbara Skudlarek of Salamanca; one brother David "Pat" (Margaret) Phearsdorf of Carrollton and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son Robert Phearsdorf in 1982; one sister Helen Litzenburger and one brother Roger Phearsdorf.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday (May 1, 2013) at 11:00am in the St. Bonaventure University Chapel. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery with full military honors being accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
