Obituary of Elsie Smith

Elsie K. Smith Olean- Elsie K. Smith, formerly of Olean, passed away peacefully Wednesday (March 21, 2012) at the Absolut of Allegany, where she had been residing for the past two years. Born in 1921 in Lyndon, NY, she was the daughter of Silas and Edith Raub Smith. Miss Smith graduated from Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville and attended Westbrook Commercial Academy, graduating in 1938. She went to work for five years at Clark Bros Co., and later she worked for Marjorie Dolamore and then Proto & Loskey LLP, both in Olean, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olean where she served on the Mission Board, volunteered as a receptionist, served on the Builders Sunday School committee and the American Baptist Women's Association. In her free time she enjoyed painting, gardening, reading and crocheting. Surviving are her two nieces Sandra Michaelis of Franklinville and Sally (Bob) Bushnell of Olean; one nephew David (Virginia) Smith of Franklinville; 6 great- nieces and nephews; and 15 great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Bradley Smith. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held on Saturday (March 31, 2012) at 2pm at the First Baptist Church in Olean. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Franklinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Olean 133 S. Union Street, Olean, NY 14760. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
