Olean, NY Sheila Marie Ofano, 69, of 3100 Cranberry Court Apt. 14 died Wednesday (February 29, 2012) in the Hart Comfort Home in Wellsville, NY surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 9, 1943 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of James and Bertha Frederick Byrne. She was married to Charles J. Ofano who predeceased her October 16, 2002.
Mrs. Ofano was a 1961 graduate of Allegany High School. She moved to the Baltimore and also the Northern Virginia areas where for eighteen years she worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. In 1979 she returned to Olean and worked as a legal secretary for the John Heyer Law Firm for twenty seven years.
She was a longtime, devoted member of Mt. Zion Christian Assembly in Olean. Her life centered on her family and the church, both of which she worked hard for and with great enjoyment and humor. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and bingo. During her final days of life she was cared for in the greatest of ways by the staff of the Hart Comfort Home and her family is grateful for the compassion shown to them as well.
Surviving are six children Andrea (Donald Snodgrass) Lawson of Norfolk, VA, Anthony Ofano of Allegany, Teresa Ofano of Annapolis, MD, Christopher Ofano of Olean, Denise Fagan of Pasadena, MD and Michelle Ofano of Olean; nine grandchildren Matthew Snodgrass, Matthew Tabor-Lawson, R. Charles Edwards, W. Edward Fagan, Emma Snodgrass, Steven Campbell, Brandon Snodgrass, Madison Fagan and Alyssa Ofano; four great grandchildren; one sister Nancy (Herbert) Oakes of Ocala, FL and several nieces and nephews, especially Lori Scott of Franklinville who because of her loving care was thought of as a daughter.
Sadly, Mrs. Ofano's other surviving sister, Patricia Davis of McMinnville, TN, passed away yesterday (March 1, 2012), only one day after her own death.
Friends will be received at the Mt. Zion Christian Assembly, 361 Front Street, Olean on Saturday (March 3, 2012) from 1-3pm. Funeral services will begin at 3:00pm at the church with Pastor Stephen Patrick to officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hart Comfort Home, 141 E. State Street Wellsville, NY 14895.
