Allegany, NY Thomas A. Carls of 1293 Chipmonk Road went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday (February 28, 2012) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born October 19, 1927 in Allegany, NY he was the son of Ernest and Florence Mohr Carls. On June 3, 1950 at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany he married Joan L. Ratzel who survives.
Mr. Carls was a lifelong resident of Allegany, having graduated from Allegany Central School in 1945. He then served with the US Army in Germany from 1945 to 1947.
He had been employed by the Olean Tile Plant, now Dal Tile, where he retired in 1991 after forty one years of service. He also worked as an independent oil producer for many years.
Mr. Carls was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 and the Olean Tile Cronie Club. His hobbies included woodworking, camping, and motorcycling and he enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife are eight children Thomas (Mary) Carls of Cuba, Kay (Bill) Miller, Steven (Sharon) Carls, Kevin (Sheryl) Carls, Patricia (Stephan) Bailey, all of Allegany, Jeff (Svetlana) Carls of Elk Horn, WI, Mark (Kathy) Carls of Lafayette, IN and Ed (Amy) Carls of Angelica; nineteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Friday (March 2, 2012) beginning with a prayer service at the funeral home at 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany American Legion or to a charity of the donor's choice.
