Gloria L. Morris
"Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother"
Olean, NY Gloria L. Morris, formerly of 326 N. 6th St. passed away peacefully Wednesday (March 9, 2011) at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean where she had resided for the past four years.
Born December 10, 1922 in Somerville, MA she was the daughter of Lawrence E. and Gladys I. Flagg Worters.
Mrs. Morris was a graduate of Wakefield High School in Wakefield, MA and later the Lynn School of Nursing in Lynn, MA. She started her career in nursing and in 1945 enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corps where she served during WWII as a 2nd Lieutenant. After moving to New York she worked as a Registered Nurse for Jones Memorial Hospital and later for Valley View Manor in Olean prior to her retirement.
She was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and in her later years attended the Guidepost Center in Olean for many years. She was a devoted football and baseball fan, especially the New York Yankees. While working as a nurse she was a compassionate caregiver which extended later in life to her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a resident of The Pines she enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels gather at the feeders.
Surviving are three daughters Susan Polk of Olean, Cindi (James) Rauh of Olean and Judy Morris of Sheridan; one son James E. Morris of North Augusta, SC; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one brother Captain Lawrence (Vera) Worters of Merrick, Long Island and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother Richard M. Worters.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (March 12, 2011) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. William Allen, co-pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor in Olean.
