Catherine A. Geise
Olean, NY Catherine A. Geise of 161 S. 25th St. Eden Heights, formerly of Allegany, died Sunday (February 13, 2011) in the Olean General Hospital on her 98th birthday.
Born February 13, 1913 in Allegany, NY she was the daughter of Francis and Christina Gerringer Martiny. On June 17, 1936 at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany she married Clarence "Snowball" Geise who predeceased her November 5, 1999 after sixty three years of marriage.
Mrs. Geise was a 1931 graduate of Allegany Central School and a graduate of Olean Teachers' Training in 1932. She taught in rural schools in the Allegany area.
She was a lifetime member of St. Bonaventure Church, a member of the local branch of the Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association, a charter member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Daughters of America #1449 and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a fifty year member of the local, state, and national Grange, a member of the Allegany Sixty Plus Club, and the Allegany Area Historical Association. Along with her husband she had volunteered for twenty years with the Meals on Wheels program.
Surviving are three sons Kenneth (Beverly) Geise of Olean, Harold (Marjorie) Geise of Allegany and William (Linda) Geise of Knoxville, PA; three daughters Kathleen (Lyle) Allen of Batavia, Bernice (William) Schlosser of Navarre, FL and Roberta (Harry) Edwards of Allegany; fifteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a granddaughter; two brothers Charles Martiny and Edward "Red" Martiny and three sisters Leona Mamott, Clara Bridon and Margaret Karl.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Friday (February 18, 2011) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Area Historical Association or to the Allegany Fire Department.
